Plot Summary / 21-May-12

Plot Summaryas of May 21st 2012.

Okay, so far there are 5 chapters up, with the latest being Chapter 5: EGOISTIC. This post will be updated regularly every 5 chapters, meaning a major update will be done every four to five months. Spoilers for both the game and the anime are here, but I will not point which is which, and it's up to you to find out if those occurrences are based off the official game/anime or whether it's my touch. Also, there will be facts and stuff here that probably aren't mentioned anywhere else in the story, so it's a good thing to read! Not everything will be here, though, and the little hints which I won't tell are won't be mentioned, so reading the actual chapters is the best way to understand the story!

Plot

So far, this is our story line.

Chapter 1: in bloom

~ Hoshino Kanon, from here on called Kanon, is a new, female student at Saotome Academy and is a composer in S Class. She is outspoken and confident, and only holds her tongue and thoughts at select things. She is immediately introduced to Nanami Haruka, another S Class composer, who is shy and timid but very talented, Shibuya Tomochika, a hyperactive idol from A Class, and Tachibana Risa, a calm and mature girl, who is also an A Class idol, and is later her roommate.

Later on, during the Welcoming Ceremony, Shining Saotome, the headmaster of Saotome Academy who was once a super-idol himself, introduces to the students the basic rules of Saotome Academy, the strictest being the No-Love Rule.

Chapter 2: magic of the night / yoru no mahou

~ After Kanon and Risa make themselves home in their dorm room, Kanon decided to go to the school's store and buy some hot chocolate, which is described as a "nightly ritual" of hers and was influenced by her mother. On the way there, she meets Tonaga Fuon, an S Class student, from here on referred simply as Tonaga by Kanon. She and Fuon start a rocky acquaintanceship, with Kanon being constantly annoyed by Tonaga by his effortless antics and personality.

Chapter 3: starting

~ The official classes start and we follow Kanon and Haruka in S Class. Students are individually introduced, and most of the descriptions come from Kanon's point of view, describing some students as "ones with dreamy smiles" or "princely" and the like.

Tonaga Fuon is revealed to be taking a double-course, both idol and composer, the only one in his class.

Later on, the students are paired through drawing pieces of paper where a half-a-symbol is printed on and whoever draws the other half is their partner. Kanon draws a pink, half-star, with the character for "everlasting" (永遠) beneath it. Haruka draws a piece of paper whose symbol the pair interpret as an eagle or a similar kind of bird (it's a falcon, actually) with the word "light" (光) beneath.

Students are asked individually to demonstrate a skill or talent of their choice, and Kanon and Haruka both decide to play the piano. Kanon is described by two fellow students, Aogawa Masaharu and even Kurusu Syo, with a playing style that is "unique" due to her rendition of a piano contest piece. Haruka describes it as "pretty".

As soon as Kanon finishes her demonstration, she is asked to tell the class what was on the piece of paper she drew. The person who drew her other half is none other than Kurusu Syo.

Chapter 4: Ambivalence

Syo Haruka follows, and Kanon is surprised at how her playing "exceeds" hers. Haruka's playing, though not perfect, is "full of heart" and piques everyone's interest. This interest grows when she is paired with Ichinose Tokiya, who is HAYATO (the idol)'s younger twin brother, according to Hyuga-sensei. His voice, if anything, is clear and perfect, much his brother's and two are considered a formidable pair for the others, considering that they are all rivals and are fighting over who will debut first.

After the lesson, Kanon and Haruka meet up with Risa and Tomochika during break, and the four discuss their individual experiences for first day. Risa and Tomochika both talk about the same topic - a cat suddenly "joining in" their pairing ceremony, which they call was with the "Red String of Fate", although Risa points out that it was a ribbon.

Later on, Kanon requests for Syo to play his violin, but this plan fails when she finds out that Syo's violin bow had snapped in half and he was unable to play for the moment.

Chapter 5: EGOISTIC

We now follow Kanon as she heads to the store for her drink, still set on the same day as Chapter 4, only at night. She runs into Fuon once again, much to her chagrin, and the two walk to the store together, with Fuon doing his usual teasing. He asks Kanon how he finds first day, Kanon describes the first day for her as "interesting."

The next day, Kanon and Haruka are rushing to class, since they were held up by Tomochika and Risa, who didn't have 9AM classes and took their time. They pass by Jinguji Ren, Tokiya and Syo, and the former comments that they aren't late yet and should relax. Syo tells him off, and Ren uses the Ochibi nickname to address him, angering the blond. As soon as Syo starts to answer back, Hyuga-sensei catches them still in the hallways.

Classes ensue, and Hyuga-sensei gives the class their first task: to get acquainted thoroughly with their partners.

A student Kanon had described with a "dreamy smile" raises the question of how students are graded since Saotome Academy isn't a regular school. The rest of the discussion leads to Hyuga-sensei explaining how idols and composers are graded.
